Helium (He) is the 2nd element of the periodic table under the Group Noble Gas. It is the 2nd lightest element of all elements found in the periodic table. It is colourless, odourless, non-combustible, and chemically inert. Helium is naturally produced underground through the radioactive decay process of uranium and thorium. Most people know about Helium from party balloons but they could not name the other uses of helium gas. Helium gas is essential in the medical field as a cooling gas for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) machines for tumours and tissue abnormalities detection. Helium is also mixed with oxygen or nitrogen to form diving gases for divers to perform activities in deep water. Helium is also widely used in the fiber optics industry to produce highly purified glass preform. In welding applications, helium is used as a pure gas or mixture of other gases which acts as a shielding gas for arc welding to promote deeper welding penetration and greater welding speed.
Ace Gases offers compressed Helium and Liquid Helium in a variety of purities and in various modes of supply.
