Silane

Silane (SiH4) is a molecule of one central silicon atom (Si) attached with four hydrogen (H2) atoms. It is colourless, toxic gas that gives a very strong acidic smell. Silane is a silicon precursor for many silicon-containing thin films in the semiconductor industry. The manufacturing process of solar photovoltaic modules consumes silane for depositing hydrogenated amorphous silicon on glass and other substrates such as plastic and metal materials. Beside that, silane is used to improve mechanical strength and electrical properties in the production of fiberglass and composites. It is also used to increase adhesion, temperature and chemical resistance in the production of adhesives and sealants.
